The Renewable Resource Fund

What is Maine's Renewable Resource Fund?

  • The Maine Renewable Resource Fund permits our customers the opportunity to help support the development of new and innovative ways to produce electricity from renewable resources (wind, water, sun, wood, trash-to-energy, tides, fuel cells, and geothermal energy).
  • This voluntary contribution can help create jobs, provide power, and protect Maine's environment.
  • The State Planning office will administer this Fund as a grant program to support research and development of renewable resource projects through Maine's public higher education institutions (the University of Maine, The Technical College System, and the Maine Maritime Academy).
  • Community groups are also able to apply for funding for demonstration projects outside the educational system.

What does your donation offer you?

  • Your chance to help promising new technologies, which use renewable resources to generate electricity, come to the market.
  • An investment in creating different sources of energy, to help maintain an adequate and reliable supply of electricity for the future.
  • A step toward a cleaner, healthier environment for the people of Maine.
