After months of planning and preparation, KLPD's new customer portal, SmartHub, officially launched on March 30, 2026. SmartHub replaces the legacy E-Bill system and gives customers a modern way to view bills, make payments, monitor usage, manage notifications, and report outages — all from any device.
What's new with SmartHub
- View and pay your bill online, by phone, or through the mobile app
- Set up AutoPay, paperless billing, and payment reminders
- Monitor daily and monthly usage with clear, interactive graphs
- Report outages and receive real-time status updates
- Update contact information and notification preferences
Important: All customers must register
All customers — including current E-Bill users — will need to register for a new SmartHub account. Accounts will not be automatically transferred from the legacy E-Bill system.
Visit the SmartHub launch page for step-by-step registration guides, video walkthroughs, and links to download the mobile app from the App Store or Google Play.
KLPD has completed its transition to NISC (National Information Solutions Cooperative) as our customer information and billing platform. The new system supports SmartHub, improves billing accuracy, and gives KLPD staff better tools for service requests, outage tracking, and account management.
Why we made the change
Our previous customer information system had reached end of life and could no longer support the modern customer-facing tools our customers expect. NISC is used by hundreds of public power and electric cooperative utilities across the country, including many in New England, and is designed specifically for utilities of our size.
If you have questions about your account following the transition, please contact the KLPD office at (207) 985-3311.
KLPD joined public power utilities from across New England at the 2026 NEPPA Lineworker Rodeo and Conference, held this year at Loon Mountain in Lincoln, New Hampshire. The three-day event brought together lineworkers, engineers, and utility staff for hands-on competition, safety training, and professional development.
Tuesday — rodeo competition
Tuesday kicked off with the annual lineworker rodeo, where three-person crews competed in a series of timed events designed to test skill, safety, and teamwork. Twenty-one teams participated — the largest turnout in the rodeo's history.
Events included:
- Hurt-man rescue
- Cross-arm climbing obstacle course
- Transformer changeout
- Dead-end / insulator changeout
The KLPD team demonstrated strong work practices and safe, efficient technique throughout the day.
Wednesday — safety training and tool demos
Wednesday focused on safety and professional development. The day opened with a keynote from Chuck Tiemann, a former lineworker who survived a 7,200-volt contact accident in 1980 and has since dedicated his career to electrical safety education. His presentation, "How much does a burn really cost?", highlighted the lifelong impacts of electrical injuries and the importance of safe work practices.
In the afternoon, attendees explored breakout sessions and the vendor expo, where manufacturers demonstrated new tools, equipment, and safety technologies.
Thursday — mental health, arc flash, and NEPPA roundtables
Thursday began with a session led by Lou Corsetti of the Gordon J. Corsetti Mental Agility Foundation, focusing on mental health, resilience, and coping strategies for lineworkers — an increasingly important topic in the utility industry.
The afternoon covered arc flash safety, including recent updates to NFPA 70E and the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC). KLPD staff also participated in NEPPA's safety and engineering roundtable discussions, sharing experiences and learning from peers across the region.
Thanks to NEPPA, host utility New Hampshire Electric Cooperative, and Loon Mountain Resort for organizing a well-run event.
